والتعلم هو الذي يهب الإنسان إنسانيته و التي تظل معه منذ ولادته حتى نهاية حياته على هذه الأرض, ومما زيد قيمة التعليم في حياة الإنسان هو الإنسان فهو بعكس جميع الكائنات الحية الأخرى يولد وهو مزود بجزء بسيط جدا من الأنماط الموروثة والقدرة الفطرية لمواجهة طبيعة الحياة التي عليه أن يعيش فيها فالبطة التي ما لبثت الخروج من بيضها تقاوم الغرق بالعوم إذا وضعة في الماء وكل صغار الكائنات الحية على هذه الوتيرة ما عدا وليد الإنسان الذي لا يستطيع القيام أو ممارسة أمور حياته الطبيعية من طعام وإخراج وإشباع الحاجات الأولية الأخرى إلا من خلال مساعدة الآخرين ورعايتهم من خلال عملية التعليم التي يكتسبها منذ ولادته, لذلك يحتل التعليم أهمية خاصة في حيات الإنسان.
مفهوم التعليم
علم النفس هو علم دراسة السلوك وحتى نفهم السلوك لابد لنا من دراسة التعليم أي ا، دراسة التعليم أساسية لفهم السلوك.
وعلى الرغم من أن السلوك الإنساني فطري في أساسة إلا أن ما يمر به هذا السلوك من تغيرات هائلة هي في الواقع وليدة التعليم الذي يبدأ في حياة الإنسان وهو ما يزال جنينا في بطن أمة.
ذلك بمكن القول أن السلوك الفطري لا يمثل إلا نسبة ضئيلة من السلوك العام للإنسان, حيث يتعلم الأطفال مثلا اللغة في فترة قصيرة للغاية.

1/التعليم المقصود / وهو ما يحدث في مواقف التعلم والتدريس .
2/التعليم غير المقصود / ويتم عن طريق ما يمر بنا من أحداث وخبرات.
كما يشمل التعليم العديد من المهارات والكفايات, من الحقائق البسيطة إلى المهارات المعقدة ويتطلب في بعض الأحيان جهدا بليغا.
