جبيل Jbeil (أو بيبلوس Byblos حسب الاسم اليوناني βύβλος) أي بمعنى بيت الكتاب هي مدينة فينيقية يطلق عليها حاليا جبيل علي ساحل البحر الأبيض المتوسط شمال بيروت بلبنان. وأطلق عليها الآشوريون والبابليون جبلة، بينما يرد اسمها بالعبرية في الكتاب المقدس: גְבַל (گـْڤال). وكانت ميناءا هاما للتبادل التجاري مع مصر في العصر البرونزي حيث كانت تستورد منه خشب الأرز لصناعة السفن منذ سنة 3000 ق.م.

وكانت بيبلوس أهم ميناء لدي الفينيقيين. وكانت مصر تصدر إليه ورق البردى ومنه كانوا يصدرونه لبلاد الإغريق. واشتهرت بيبلوس بصناعة السفن الفينيقية من خشب أشجار الأرز وصناعة الفخار فوق الدولاب (العجلة). عثر بها علي معبد بعلة جيل ربة بيبلوس ومعابد أخري ومسرح روماني مدرج وحمامات
هو أحد أقضية محافظة جبل لبنان الستة، يمتد من مجرى نهر إبراهيم في الجنوب حتى مجرى النهر المدفون في الشمال ، و من ساحل البحر غربا، حتى قمم السلسلة الغربية لجبال لبنان على ارتفاع حوالي ال2000 متر شرقا، بمساحة تزيد على ال 380 كيلومترا مربعا .
تحده من الشمال محافظة الشمال و من الشرق محافظة البقاع ومن الغرب سواحل البحر الأبيض المتوسط و من الجنوب قضاء كسروان.

يقطن القضاء 70000 نسمة تقريبا، أي ما يعادل 1.7 % من العدد الاجمالي لسكان لبنان، يتوزعون على 83 بلدة في 35 منها مجالس بلدية منتخبة.

مركز القضاء مدينة جبيل السياحية و هي من أهم مدن لبنان و الشرق من الناحية التاريخية حيث تعود آثارها و قلعتها البحرية إلى أيام الفينيقيين قبل نحو أربعة آلاف سنة . تتألف التركيبة الطائفية لمجموع قضائي جبيل وكسروان من :
