يعتبر أرسطو ، أحد أقدم الفلاسفة اليونانيين ، ومن أعظم المفكرين عبر التاريخ .
من ماذا يتكون الكون ؟ ولماذا تحدث الحوادث ؟ وكيف تنمو الحيوانات ؟
حاول الفيلسوف الإغريقي القديم أيجاد أجوبة على أسئلة كبيرة كهذه . واليوم يذكر على أنه أعظم الفلاسفة قاطبة سبق وعاش .

المشـــي والكـــلام

ولد أرسـطو عام (384) ق. م. بمدينة ماسا دونيا (شمال اليونان حالياً) . وكان والده طبيباً . وعندما بلغ السابعة عشرة من عمره ، ذهب إلى أثينا ، أغنى وأوسع مدينة في اليونان ، حيث مكث هناك أغلب حياته ، دارساً ومدرساً .
وقد انشأ مدرسته الخاصة حيث ناقش الطلبة الأفكار أثناء تنزههم في الحدائق .
لقد عاش أرسطو في ماسا دونيا من عام 345 إلى 335 ق. م. وعمل معلماً خصوصياً للأمير بالاسكندر ، الذي عرف فيما يعد بالاسكندر العظيم . ثم عاد أرسطو إلى أثينا في 335 ق.م. وتوفي بالأسكندر عام 323 ق.م. وأصبح أصدقاؤه غير شعبيين . حينها أجبر أرسطو على ترك مدرسته في أثينا ، إذ مات بالعام الثاني في 322 ق.م.

بحوثــــــــه

درس أرسطو عدة مواضيع ، إلا أنه كان الأكثر اهتماما بالعلوم ، لاسيما علم الأحياء (دراسة كل الكائنات الحية) ، وعلم الحيوان (دراســـة الحيوانات) . لقد حاول أن يكتشف كيف يفكر البشر ، وكيف يخبروا العالم من حولهـم ، إضافة إلى محاولته وصف الأشياء غير المرئية ، مثل الدماغ والروح . لقد اخترع علماً جديداً يدعى السببية . وهو يشرح لماذا تحدث الأشياء ؟
ما الشيء الذي أختص به أرسطو ؟

في كل بحوثه مهد أرسـطو طريقاً جديداً للدراســة ، كما حث على المفاتيح لما رأى بغية البرهان . أنه لم يلجأ إلى أعمال تخمينية أو قبول كل ما آمن به الناس قبل ذلك . لقد غير أسلوبه في طرح تساؤلاته عن تلك الطريقة التي أتبعها العلماء لقرون عديدة .
ألف أرسطو كتباً عديدة ، وأحتفظ بملاحظات بغية المساعدة في تدريس طلبته ، إلا أنها سرعان ما فقدت ، بعد انهيار الحضارة اليونانية . لكن العلماء المسلمين احتفظوا بهذه الكتابات بعناية ، وأوصلوها إلى علماء في أوربا وآسيا . لقد انتشرت أفكار أرسطو في جميع أنحاء العالم.

What is the universe made of? Why do accidents happen? How do animals grow? Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle tried to find answers to big questions like these. Today, he is remembered as one of the greatest philosophers who ever lived.
WALKING AND TALKING
Aristotle was born in 384 bc in ancient Macedonia (now northern Greece). His father was a doctor. When Aristotle was 17, he went to Athens, the biggest and richest city in ancient Greece. He stayed there for most of his life, studying and teaching. He set up his own school, where students discussed new ideas while strolling in the gardens. From 345 to 335 bc, Aristotle lived in Macedonia. He worked as tutor to Prince Alexander, who later became known as Alexander the Great. In 335 bc, Aristotle returned to Athens. In 323 bc, Alexander died, and his friends became unpopular. Aristotle was forced to leave his school in Athens. He died the next year, in 322 bc.

INVESTIGATIONS

Aristotle studied many subjects. But he was most interested in science, especially biology (the study of all living things), zoology (the study of animals), and astronomy (the study of the universe). He tried to find out how humans think, and how they experience the world around them. He also tried to describe invisible things, such as the mind and the soul. He invented a new science, called causality. It explained why things happen.

In all his investigations, Aristotle pioneered a new way of studying. He looked for clues in what he saw and for proof. He didn’t use guesswork or accept whatever people already believed. His method of questioning changed the way scholars worked for many centuries.Aristotle wrote many books, and he kept notes to help teach his students. These might easily have been lost after ancient Greek civilization collapsed. But Muslim scientists carefully preserved these writings and passed them on to scholars in Europe and Asia. Aristotle’s ideas spread around the world.
