Variation among languages is a cause for translators to keep the attempts of finding appropriate **********alent that matches or carries somehow the idea or meaning from the first language (F
L) to the target language(TL). In this essay , I try to explain the concept of **********alence in translation. I chose Arabic and English as an example.

I begin with the concept of word meaning in both languages. If we take the word 'owl' for example , we find out that this word has different notion in both languages. In Arabic it has the idea of pessimism. That in a way people become pessimistic when ever they see an owl. It indicates to them the idea of bad luck or a disaster my occur in the near future. But in English it is totally different. In English it carries the idea of wisdom and good judgment. Besides that , we have the structural linguistic ,which means the wording of a sentence. Let's take this example. هذا منزل جميل ". " It means : This is a beautiful house. Now let's take this word by word. هذا : means this / منزل : means house / جميل:means beautiful. This house beautiful. Of course this sentence is wrong. First , it does not have 'is' verb to be. Second , there is the problem of word order. Adjectives should precede nouns they modify. Where in English ,we write 'This is a beautiful house'. The verb to be is there.The adjective is in its proper place. If we say in Arabic "جميل بيت", this is wrong. Adjectives in Arabic should come after the noun they modify 'بيت جميل'.

To sum up , sometimes due to religious , cultural and literary factors , it is difficult to find a standard **********alent in one language for another. Therefore, a translator needs to be acquainted with phonological, morphological , syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, idiomatic, religious, and cultural systems of both languages( FL & TL) in order to have a satisfactory translation .
