 			         Coursebook
The new multimedia textbook series for Levels B1+B2 and C1
Target group: Young adults and adults in all institutions of non-school education as well as in the upper classes of secondary schools.
Study target: In every volume the language level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference) given in the title is achieved. Afterwards the corresponding target exam can be taken. For the most important exams there are specific practice materials, which complement the textbook. Detailed information to all exams can be found on the Internet at .
Concept: The course book comes with a basic learning program for the course work, which contains eight lessons per half-volume. The textbook is special because it contains many suggestions for internal classroom differentiation in the workbook and in the other components of the textbook series. With these suggestions the various requirements of the learners can be balanced and the teacher can fulfill the different demands of the learners. Additionally, the material supports individual language acquisition.
Methodological approach: In principle, the textbook series always strives to allow learners to develop, comprehend and learn new information based on familiar information. Here it is important to design the language acquisition in a way that the learner can evaluate his/her learning progress in the productive areas.
Course book: Every lesson is made up of seven clearly structured lesson pages (basic learning program) as well as three overview pages (learning goals, linguistics devices, grammar) and followed by a double page of photographs for free project work.
Thematically, every lesson deals with a topic of general interest and, in view to language acquisition, a defined level-appropriate communicative goal (Common European Framework of Reference). The lesson is divided into individual sections, each of which deal with a linguistic or grammatical aspect of the communicative goal. It is always the last section of a lesson in which the learner completes an application task in which all of the aspects are brought together.
The individual lessons are arranged in a slight progression, but can still be varied according to the learner’s focus of interest.
The impulse for the development of the individual aspects always comes from realia (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, audio-visual impulses) so that the promotion of receptive skills always goes hand-in-hand with the training of productive skills. The listening comprehension is available on separate audio-CDs for the coursebook.
Workbook: The workbook is suitable for language work with internal differentiating classroom work, as well as for independent work outside of the classroom. It offers complementary exercises and tasks for the basic learning program. In addition, there are repetition exercises which bring the learner to the target level and tasks that go beyond that.
The following areas of language acquisition are specifically promoted in the workbook:
- Vocabulary (specific vocabulary fields)
- Grammar (systematic and contextual)
- Sentence construction (activating and practicing relevant linguistic devices)
- Texts Production (systematic training of writing competence)
- Reading texts (systematic training in comprehension of longer reading texts)
- Phonetics (speech melody, speech tempo, emotions)
- Dictation (correct spelling)
- Exam task (familiarizes learner with typical exam tasks)
- Learner vocabulary (contains the necessary basic vocabulary for every lesson)
The integrated learner audio-CD/CD-ROM contains the workbook listening comprehension texts and phonetics exercises as well as all necessary, accompanying materials for the course book and workbook for the learner: a monolingual glossary and grammar overviews, both to consult and to work on, the learner portfolio and references to geo-political and cultural aspects. With the help of these materials the learner can organize, arrange and expand his/her contents of study, using the information received in the instruction,. Lesson-related tests allow for personal evaluation of the learning progress.
Worksheets for vocational language: For every lesson the textbook series also contains worksheets for vocational language in the form of photocopiables (available as downloads on the Internet and as master copies in the teacher’s manual).
The Extra-CD-ROM offers additional topics, texts, tasks and exercises which serve to promote individual language acquisition and it is suitable for work in media rooms as well as at home.
The DVD with worksheets contains film material for the individual lessons, can be specifically employed and contains additional worksheets with tasks and exercises pertaining to the films.
The Teacher’s book with teacher CD-ROM offers a new possibility of lesson preparation by connecting the different components of the textbook
