أُسْطُورَة الْخَوْف
ذَكَرُو فيِ أَسَاطِيرِ الأوَّلِينَ أنَّ هَيْكَلاً عَظِيمًا كَانَ خَارِجَ مَدِينَةِ اِصْطَخْر، وَكَانَ يَأوِي إِلَيْهِ بَعْضُ سُرَاةِ اللَّيْلِ إِذَا اِشْتَدَّ بِهِمْ وَحْشَةُ الظَّلاَمِ. وَمَا آوَى إِلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ، إِلاَّ غَالَتْهُ الْمَنِيَّة. فَيَأتِي طُلاَّبُ أَثَرِهِ إلىَ الْهَيْكَلِ فيِ ضَوْءِ النَّهَارِ لِقَصِّ خَبَرِهِ، فيِجِدُونَهُ مَيِّتًا بِرَغْمِ سَلاَمَةِ بَدَنِهِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَا يُعْرَفُ سَبَبًا لِلْمَوْتِ. اِشْتَهَرَ أَمْرُ الْهَيْكَلِ بَيْنَ السَّابِلَةِ وَالْقُطَّانِ. وَأَخَذَ كُلٌّ حِذْرَهُ مِنَ الْمَبِيتِ بِهِ. حَتَّى ضَاقَتْ الدُّنْيَا بِرَجُلٍ وَفَضَّلَ الْمَوتَ عَلَى الْحَيَاةِ. لَكِنْ صَعُبَ عَلَيْهِ الاِنْتِحَارُ. فَذَهَبَ إلىَ الْهَيْكَلِ لَعَلَّهُ يَلْقَى مَنِيَّتَهُ. كَانَ بِالْقُرْبِ مِنَ الْهَيْكَلِ رِجَالٌ، نَصَحُوهُ وَحَذَّرُوهُ عَاقِبَةَ الْهَلاَكِ؛ فَلَم يَصْغَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَقَالَ: - إِنّمَا أَتَيْتُ لِتِلْكَ الْعَاقِبَةِ. اِنْفَلَتَ الرَّجُلُ الْبَائِسُ مِنْ نُصَحَائِهِ إلىَ حَيْثَ يَظُنُّ مَهْلَكَهُ. لَمَّا تَوَسَّطَ الْهَيْكَلَ فَاَّجَابَهُ أَصْوَاتٌ مُزْعِجَةٌ هَائِلَةٌ، كَأَنَّ جَمْعًا عَظِيمًا يُخَاطِبُهُ. - هَا نَحْنُ قَدْ أَتَيْنَا لإِتْلاَفِكَ ! هَا نَحْنُ قَدْ أَتَيْنَا لإِزْهَاقِ رُوحِكَ ! هَا نَحْنُ قَدْ وَصَلْنَا لِتَمْزِيقِ بَدَنِكَ وَسَحْقِ عِظَامِكَ! صَاحَ الْبَائِسُ: - أَلاَ فَاقْدُمُوا، فَقَدْ سَئِمتُ الْحَيَاةَ! لَمْ يَكَدْ يُتِمُّ كَلاَمَهُ حَتَّى حَدَثَتْ فَرْقَعَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ وَانْحَلَّ الطِّلَّسْمُ، وَانشَقَّ الْجِدَارُ، وتَنَاثَرَتْ مِنْهُ الدَّنَانِيرُ وَالدَّرَاهِمُ، وَتَفَتَّحَتْ أَبْوَابُ الْكُنُوزِ. اِطْمَأَنَّ الْخَائِفَ، وَنَامَ. لَمَّا أضْحَى النَّهَارُ وَجَاءَ الْوَاقِفُونَ عَلى خَبَرِهِ لِيَحْمِلُوا جِنَازَتَهُ، وَجَدُوهُ فَرِحًا مُسْتَبْشِرًا. يَسْأَلُهُمْ بَعْضَ الأَوْعِيَةِ لِيَحْمِلَ مَا وَجَدَهُ مِنَ الَّذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ. سَأَلَ الرِّجَالُ عَنْ قِصَّتِهِ، وَبَعْدَ الْبَيَانِ، عَلِمُوا أَنَّ هَلاَكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ إِنَّمَا كَانَ بِسَبَبِ الْفَزَعِ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْمُزْعِجَاتِ الّتيِ لاَ حَقِيقَةَ لَهَا«.
